South Tyrol promises you pleasant and exciting holidays in unspoilt natural surroundings! In the summer it offers hiking, Nordic walking, biking weeks and sunbathing holidays; in the autumn there is ‘Törggelen’ (a South Tyrolean tradition involving local specialities and wine) and you can enjoy good food; and in winter it offers skiing holidays with plenty of good views!

The history of South Tyrol

From 1363 to 1919, South Tyrol was part of the Habsburg Empire. In the peace treaty at the end of the First World War, South Tyrol was given to the victorious power Italy and consequently Italianised. After difficult times and conflicts between the language groups, today almost 500,000 German-, Italian- and Ladin-speaking people live together peacefully. The province of Trentino-South Tyrol is autonomous and therefore an example for minorities around the world!

South Tyrol... The magic of diversity

South Tyrol lives on contrasts and is therefore also described as a symbiosis of Alpine and Mediterranean culture, of spontaneity and reliability, of nature and culture.

In South Tyrol, you will experience steep cliffs, snow-white mountain peaks, vibrant centres, idyllic villages, mighty castles, dreamy palaces, good wine, aromatic speck, hard regional ‘Schüttelbrot’ bread, flavoursome chestnuts and much more!

South Tyrol for activities

South Tyrol is the perfect holiday destination for those who want active holidays: hiking through meadows and fields, mountain climbing in the Dolomites, leisurely cycling on forest trails, bike excursions to the peaks, skiing on white slopes, snowshoe walking, cross-country skiing, paragliding and much more!

South Tyrol for families

Play the knight and the lady of the castle, get to know Ötzi the Iceman and his world, hover over the treetops and hike through a real canyon…in South Tyrol it will certainly never be boring. And there is something for everyone: for the courageous, the playful, the curious and the dreamy. Customise your perfect family holiday!

South Tyrol for gourmets

The symbiosis of two cultures is also visible in the cuisine: on the menu you will find both traditional country Tyrolean cuisine as well as Mediterranean dishes! Quality products in South Tyrol include apples, grapes, chestnuts, local ‘Schüttelbrot’ bread, speck, honey, wine, grappa and much more! Visit the gourmet Hotel Tolder in the Kronplatz region!
